CH4 – The Champagne Wine Route by Bike

From Reims, also known as the city of kings, discover the most prestigious vineyards of Champagne. Cycle through the vineyards and villages typical of this region to reach Épernay where the greatest Champagne houses await you. Blanc de Blanc, Cathedral Notre-Dame, Montagne de Reims, Dom Pérignon these great names will no longer be a mystery to you!

The hike

Day 1: Arrival in Reims

City of History and Art, discover the great city of the Sacred Mounts, dominated by the magnificent Cathedral of Notre Dame, a major work of Gothic art. Come and walk through its typical Art Deco streets and find yourself in the Roaring Twenties!

Day 2: Reims – Aÿ – 46 km

You will take the Champagne tourist route through the vineyards and charming villages of Verzenay, Bouzy and Rilly la Montagne. To end this day, you will cycle along the riverside on the new Véloroute de la Vallée de la Marne before reaching Aÿ.

Day 3: Aÿ – Baulne en Brie – 46 km

You will continue today on the Veloroute before reaching Hautvillers, a village known for having hosted the famous monk Dom Perignon. After the visit, you will cross the vineyards and enjoy the wonderful landscapes of the Marne Valley before reaching Baulne-en-Brie, one of the oldest villages in Champagne.

Day 4: Baulne en Brie – Virtues – 41 km (or 58 km)

Today you will discover a rich heritage, Abbey, castles and charming villages are on the agenda for the day!

Day 5: Virtues – Épernay – 27 km

The famous Côte des Blancs is open to you. Cradle of Chardonnay, you will discover superb typical villages and vineyards as far as the eye can see. Come and explore this wonderful architectural heritage and follow in the footsteps of the winegrowers of the past before joining Epernay.

Day 6: End of the hike after breakfast

Access to the site

By rail: Direct link between Paris Gare de l’Est, Charles de Gaulle airport and Champagne Ardenne TGV station located 5 km south of Reims Taxi link to the centre of Reims or Epernay.

Difficulty of the circuit

Level 2 – Hiking can present some difficulties: stages exceeding 20 kilometres or taking place on hilly or sometimes hilly terrain. A small physical preparation is necessary for those who have no activity during the year.
