Loire valley castles Orleans to Chaumont sur Loire

Loire valley castles Orleans to Chaumont sur Loire

The Loire Valley has seen many of France’s kings pass through its territories. Listed with UNESCO as a World Heritage site, it is one of the rare places in the world where one finds magnificent chateaux, mansions, churches and abbeys in such quantity, giving testimony to an intense and rich spiritual and cultural life, as well as an art de vivre that has continued throughout the centuries. Beyond Orleans, the Loire lazily and nonchalantly spreads out under a pleasant climate. You will discover the Gothic basilica of Clery-Saint-Andre, where lies Louis XI. You will visit Meung-sur-Loire, a village decorated by numerous watermills and a dual-styled chateau. You will pass through the old medieval village of Beaugency to arrive at the doorsteps of Chambord, a chateau only imagined in the most magical of dreams. You will continue on to Cheverny – perhaps the most beautiful and refined of all the chateaux of the Loire – Troussay, Beauregard and Blois, a royal city with an electric history! A bit further along the Loire you will find Chaumont and its splendid park, and then you will fall back a couple centuries as you enter into the fortified castle of Fougeres-sur-Bievre.
